On Thursday, Crocker 2nd and 3rd graders had a chance to celebrate a “book birthday” for Annette Bay Pimentel’s new book, Girl Running: Bobbi Gibb and the Boston Marathon. Pimentel was at Crocker on the release date of her book about the first woman to run the Boston Marathon. We sang Happy Birthday to the book along with some Cougars who also have birthdays this week.

Pimentel  shared stories about her life as a writer stretching all the way back to her childhood. She also told us a few interesting stories about Bobbi Gibb that didn’t make it into the book — and she told us why. Writers have to make tough choices about what to include in their work and sometimes have to leave interesting details out when they don’t support the main idea.

Thanks to Annette Bay Pimentel for her fantastic book and taking the time to share it with the kids.
